This field is expanding because of all the potential security breaches than can and have occurred. The prevention of unauthorised use of someone’s computer, the disruption of service or the destruction of systems is an integral part of a security techs job.

Course Description:

The security course involves many different levels of instruction. They will begin with the basic information about securing networks, biometrics, software exploitation and the various forms of attacks on computers. The student will delve into areas of communication security, and infrastructure such as firewalls and cryptography. There is a section on disaster recovery techniques, forensics and chain of custody when you have retrieved physical evidence. Once you have an understanding of the tools available for security you will implement them as part of the course. After each section there will be a review. The student will have access to tutors at all times if they have chosen an online study course. Upon the completion of this course the student can take the exam for the IT Security certificate.

Course Duration:

Online study will provide the student with the fewest time constraints, allowing each person to learn at their own comfort level. It is recommended that the student study several times a week for at least one hour. The college or university courses usually are comprised of ten weeks of instruction.
